Subject:Agenda Item 9: PILOT PROGRAM FOR WINTER OPEN SPACE HOURS OF USE
Dear Madame Mayor and City Council,
I am the Vice President of the Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers, a Lecturer in the Kinesiology Department at Cal
Poly, an athlete that enjoys exercising outdoors, a volunteer that dedicates time to the city and to trails, and a resident
of San Luis Obispo. CCCMB has already sent in our letter supporting Item 9 on the agenda for this evening, but I also
wanted to send a personal note.
I personally support the City Staff Plan for the pilot program and extended hours on Cerro San Luis until 8:30pm during
the winter months and appreciate the time that has been dedicated to this matter. City Staff has done a great job so far
in researching and limiting potential wildlife impact and I believe the pilot program will give city staff the ability to
conduct further research to understand usage on Cerro San Luis. A few extra hours in the winter will allow outdoor
enthusiasts to enjoy the open space, stare up the stars, get away from city traffic, and hopefully be inspired to give back
to the trails/open space/wildlife and one day volunteer in the community for a cause that is important to them. Being
outside in open space and on beautiful trails inspired me when I was younger and I try to give back where I can in both
my profession and through volunteer work. Many of us that want to use the trails during these hours respect wildlife
and open space and just want a place to exercise that isn't on the road with cars or in a gym or a place that we have to
drive 30 minutes to (i.e. Montana de Oro).
Thank you all for considering moving forward with the pilot program and I appreciate all the hard work you do to make
San Luis Obispo a better place!
Sincerely,
Christie O'Hara
CCCMB Vice President
