HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/16/2018 Item 9, Schmidt (2) From:Richard Schmidt < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Item 9: Night hiking Dear Council Members, It has come to my attention today that some of you are alleging there is no data that humans interfere with nocturnal wildlife activity by being in habitat at night. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact you don't know about the science is not a fig leaf you can hide behind. Indeed, it's a Trumpean climate-denier sort of argument to claim there's no data. I also have to laugh a bit, since I have long urged you to make data-based decisions, and you've refused when decisions could have had much more foundation had they been data-based. Now you pull this fake news out and use the D-word to support it! But no matter, if data is so important to you, please cite the data you have that night activity does not disturb wildlife. Also, since it's obvious this "data" idea was unlikely to spontaneously spring into several of your minds simultaneously , would you mind sharing with the public who planted it there? Do the right thing: protect our open space resources by maintaining night-time closure. Sincerely, Richard Schmidt 1
