Subject:The Bike Track on Chorro and Broad
Dear Mayor and Council members,
The saying of, "Measure twice, cut once.", seems like a good plan for this Bike Path Plan in the Anholm District.
Richard Schmidt's articles in the Tribune and Newtimes, is this project's second measurement. And the plan just doesn't
fit. I've looked at the future proposals for a bike path throughout our town of San Luis Obispo, and it seems to me that
that this stretch should remain a Sharrow area for bikes. From Chorro to Lincoln, to West Street back to Chorro already
exists a safe route. It needs very little. It will cost far less, be less invasive and more than likely stick; whereas, the Bike
Track will come and go.
Anholm is not a destination, it is a pass through area. Start at a destination and work off of that. Chorro is a wider
street than Broad. It will not just displace the number of parking places your plan suggests, but it will displace many
people from using their driveways that will but up against a Bike Track. 31 driveways cut through this proposed safety
Bike Track.
Anholm' streets cannot become wider. Unless large trees are removed and that is for another discussion.
I can't imagine your jobs. But, from one side of this argument I keep hearing that, "The Bike Track is the better
alternative to the Sharrow concept." But Richard Schmidt's articles proves this is not true.
Please consider not doing this Bike Track.
Respectfully,
Nancy T. Pickering of the Anholm District
