Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I have lived at 378 Chorro Street for 45 years. As I back out of my driveway I watch for
pedestrians, cyclists, skate boarders and traffic often exceeding the 25 mph speed limit
going in both directions. I have seen a dramatic increase in the number of cars parked
on both sides of my block of Chorro as well as those parked on Center, Mountain View
and Lincoln Streets. I find it difficult to believe that there will not be an impact on the
quality of life for our neighborhood by eliminating 7 blocks of parking. I do not
understand how deliveries and trash collection can be managed.
The information regarding what other "bike friendly" cities and countries have
researched and implemented when compared to the information that the City Council is
promoting is disturbing. The years of experience in implementing a bike friendly
environment in places like, Davis, Copenhagen and Holland should be taken into
account by you. At a cost of $3 million there needs to be more time and intelligent study
to determine where and if a cycle route is necessary in this location.
I would like to know if cyclists must use an existing bike lane or will they still be able to
ride anywhere a car can go.
I think it is important that speakers at the City Council meeting on February 6 state their
address as well as their name.
I urge you to vote no on this poorly designed project. Enforce the speed limits on our
streets.
