Honorable Mayor
And Council Members:
Two disclosures:
the Anholm Bikeway Project (Project) is not in our neighborhood; and
we do not own or need bikes (walk lots; drive little).
Our bonafides are that we have struggled through past City bike-worthy solutions along
Johnson Avenue.
First, the City added bikes lanes. The result on our block: no on-street parking, speeding traffic,
and few cyclists. Then those consequences finally led to a reclaiming, multi-year Neighborhood
Traffic Management plan and extended process.
The lesson? Don’t spend $3 million hoping for a cross-town transportation solution treading
through a viable neighborhood, only to return later with more taxpayer money to help save
that neighborhood.
We urge the City Council to take a more inclusive decision-making course. Project neighbors
raise serious and specific issues that first need your attention and remedy. Project approval will
certainly set a precedent for other neighborhoods at risk from future bike committee
recommendations.
