Good morning,
I won’t be able to attend the meeting tomorrow eve, but did want to offer some thoughts for you to consider on this
very contentious project.
I voice my concern and opposition for the “preferred” bike plan, as presented by staff.
My three main reasons, in no order of importance, follows:
1) Safety. Having a few blocks of protected bike paths through the Anholm neighborhood, creates a false sense of
security. Then one is spit out under the overpass and on downtown, where nothing is to change. On the other end, the
easement through the LDS property isn’t secured yet, and then our kids are to cross Foothill, not at a stop light, but at
one of those flashing crosswalks like in front of the post office. This is ridiculous! Talk about a path to nowhere!
2) Expense. $3 million dollars! For some people to pass through our neighborhood.
I know we have some bicyclists who live in our neighborhood, but what we do have a lot of are walkers. We walk to each
other’s homes, to our tiny Anholm park on Mission, to our Lincoln deli, downtown...we walk, night and day, and what
our neighborhood really needs are ADA curbs, a few more crosswalks, some better street lighting, and definitely lighting
under the 101 underpass.
When my husband was ill, someone who had lived in this neighborhood since 1957, and wanted to get out for a “walk”,
first by walker, and then by wheelchair, we had to walk in the street, as we couldn’t negotiate the curbs.
Making our sidewalks more accessible and safer, now that is something that would benefit us ALL, not just SOME.
3) Our wonderful Anholm neighborhood.
We are a blend of young and old, retirees, working class, students and toddlers.
We know each other, look out for each other, help each other, share meals together, share ideas and have discussions.
We walk. We stop and visit. We are a neighborhood.
PLEASE give more consideration to us, than to those who just pass through...please vote NO on this bike plan.
Thank you,
Debbie Anthony
