Subject:Bike route proposal
To Mayor Heidi Harmon and the City Council of San Luis Obispo:
Safety is our greatest concern regarding all of the bike boulevard proposals in the Chorro and Broad Street areas.
Having lived in this neighborhood and traveled this route for 30 years and using several travel methods including biking,
walking, and cars, all proposed options appear to be very unsafe, and with increased building on Foothill Blvd, we feel all
proposals are unsatisfactory.
The routes and supposed encouragement of bike useage are unrealistic.
Have you polled all the demographics in this case? The elderly, working poor, families with small children, and health-
affected citizens? The majority of people are unable to bicycle to work and school.
My mother-in-law is a competent driver, but living on Serrano Heights is never going to be able to navigate around the
proposed bike blvd., and surely will not be biking herself.
My neighbors on Felton who live in the apartments travel to housekeeping jobs at the Apple Farm and the Marriott, and
while some of them use the bus system and bikes, it is not feasible to drop kids off at school, go to the market, and put
in a long day at work with the huge traffic and safety concerns that will come with our increased population and illogical
bike routes.
We live on Cerro Romauldo which is already hugely impacted with Cal Poly students parking for their Cal Poly classes.
My husband is a self-employed contractor who must use his vehicle to get to jobs in San Luis Obispo.
With current and proposed high-density housing on Foothill Blvd., and the realistic needs of ALL of our
community(working poor, elderly, families), please postpone all current bike boulevard options and rethink our current
traffic/parking safety situation in San Luis Obispo.
