Dear Council Members and Mayor,
Before you commit to spending a lot of money on bike route changes, please
consider these comments.
Try four things that would not be expensive:
1. Enhance the existing “Chevron Bicycle Street Markings” in all lanes so they are
more pronounced
and more reflective at night. Try different and possibly even larger formats for
reflectivity and color, etc.
making them better for all times of day and night.
2. Provide more regular policing of the vehicle traffic, both cars and bicycles on
Chorro Street
and Broad Street. Cars are often 10 MPH over the 25 MPH speed limit, while
bicycles looking both
ways run the stop signs often, creating uncertainty for drivers and pedestrians.
3. Make public announcements that advise about increased monitoring and
patrolling of both streets.
4. Do all of this for one year while putting a moratorium on making the proposed
changes to bicycle
routing, etc. Let’s see if we really need all of the proposed bike lane changes.
Sincerely,
George B. Breznay
