I have attended the planning meetings and have heard public comment for and against this project. Everyone can agree that less car traffic is better on any street. Has any asked the council to divert car traffic onto their street? Cycling is a way to reduce car traffic. Fewer cars means less noise, air pollution, and road maintenance (which has it's own set of pollutants) This project is a step towards achieving the City's major goal of multi-modal transportation. Currently there is no bike lane on Chorro St. Are having cars and cyclists sharing a lane safer than them having separate lanes? Resident safety is an issue important for everyone. The separated cycle track will make residents safer. The separated bike way is a long term improvement. This project is a benefit for current residents and the children residents. Currently there is no safe way to connect the north side of town and the downtown. The preferred alternative would provide a safe way for cyclists of all abilities to travel across town. Santa Rosa is high speed and high traffic and California boulevard has a hill and is not convenient for many city residents. The results of the Morro st bike boulevard are clearly positive. A separated cycle track on Chorro will do the same. Closing Monterey and creating Mission Plaza is another example where Council put cyclists and pedestrians ahead of cars and it had a major positive impact. There was passionate resistance to both of these projects but it was the poise and vision of the Council that made those decisions to make SLO a better place is abundantly clear. The separated bikeway will benefit all residents of SLO as cycling and waking become safer and more enjoyable. Please vote for the "preferred alternative" which includes separated cycle track on Chorro st. Thank you for making the choice for all the residents of San Luis Obispo Sincerely, Brad Buxton 1
