Subject:In Favor of the Preferred Alternative to the Broad Street Bicycle Boulevard Proposal
Esteemed San Luis Obispo City Council Members,
I am writing in favor of the Preferred Alternative to the Broad Street Bicycle Boulevard Proposal. As a bicyclist and
parent of children at Pacheco Elementary School, we have essentially stopped riding with our children to school due to
safety concerns. There is no safe route across town when the current level of traffic along these routes is considered. I
realize that there is significant outcry against the plan for some citizens who stand to lose some access to parking, but I
hope that the council listens to the many other voices that support expansion of safe bicycling routes in our town. With
the many housing and building projects that are being undertaken, we have already seen a significant rise in
traffic. Although there are some considerations to mitigate this, we will continue to see longer commute times and
more difficult parking and one of the only long-term solutions is to solidify San Luis Obispo's place as a bicycle-friendly
community and connect our city with safe bikeways.
