I am an avid cyclist; however, I am also a very cautious cyclist having been seriously injured after being hit by a car while riding my bike. Chorro Avenue makes me very concerned whether I am driving or riding my bike. Yet, as has been noted, a protected bike lane greatly increases both the reality and the impression of safety for all. The Preferred Alternative creates safer streets for everyone - people who drive cars, people who ride bikes and people who walk. The Lincoln Street Alternative doesn't do enough to even create the illusion of safety and will not raise ridership or increase safety for riders. These are important to meeting the City goal of Vision Zero and the goal of 20% mode share. In addition,, the Preferred Alternative will play an important role in providing much needed Safe Routes to Schools for students attending Bishop Peak and Pacheco Elementary Schools. The Preferred Alternate may be seen as a bold statement; but is that not what is required to truly address these goals and to set the standard and expectation the we will actually achieve these all important goals. Thank you for working to make San Luis Obispo a safer place to live. Sincerely, Karen Aydelott 1
