Re: Las Padres Motel Project
Dear Planning Commission and Architectural Review Commission Members,
As a community member that has lived adjacent to this proposed project for the past 15 years, I am
writing to request that you strongly consider that the excessive development of 4-story hotels, both in
this area and downtown, is supporting the needs of the tourist while actively disregarding the needs of
their own citizens.
I’d like you to strongly consider that this use of land in developing a 4-story hotel building and facility will
not contribute to the majority of properties in this area as they are residential and date back to the 20’s
and 30’s. Please consider the actual use of the adjacent properties when looking at the massing on the
shared property line.
There is an expected degree of privacy in one’s home and that will be lost to a 4-story hotel with minimal
setback. The residents of San Luis Obispo have consistently expressed strong community values, and
desire to seek a different sort of future for our community than this proposed project reflects.
Your role is critical to the integrity of our uptown residential/commercial mix, maintaining existing
neighborhoods with an eye to assuring that new development occurs as part of the neighborhood
pattern. This project grossly disregards this foundational premise and core value of the City of SLO
Planning Commission.
Please be the leader for the foundations of land use and deny this project. More 4-story hotels adjacent to
residential in commercial/tourism mixed neighborhoods is not part of the vision for uptown SLO.
Respectfully,
Kathy Daniels
