Subject: Jack House Committee: Clarification of 2/31/18 Correspondence
Jack House Committee Members,
At its February 14, 2018 public meeting, the Jack House Committee will be receiving information from staff
about the volunteer docent group’s status and a review of roles and responsibilities during the ongoing project
to analyze the management, maintenance and operations of the historic Jack House. This is a timely
presentation by staff as the recent public correspondence further identifies the communication challenges that
continue to be addressed between the various Jack House support groups and the need for clarification of
roles and responsibilities during this process.
As Marilyn’s Darnell’s correspondence to the Committee and the staff report present conflicting information, a
review of meeting notes and an in-person conversation with the Jack House Committee Chair was conducted
today to provide clarity on the January 25, 2018 staff/docent meeting and the resignation of the docent
president.
On January 25, 2018 Parks and Recreation staff met with several members of the docent group who indicated
they would be “stepping back from docent responsibilities” until the analysis was concluded and
recommendations considered by the Council. At this meeting, those in attendance included the Parks and
Recreation Director Shelly Stanwyck, Recreation Manager Melissa Mudgett, Recreation Supervisor Dave
Setterlund, Jack House Committee Chair Kathi Settle, Jack House Vice Chair Toni Kincaid, Jack House
Committee Member Dorothy Sundbye, Docent President Marilyn Darnell and Docent Lois Crotser. It is the
recollection of the Parks and Recreation Director, Manager, Supervisor and the Jack House Committee Chair
that Marilyn clearly stated her resignation from the role of the docent president and would be stepping back as
a docent. Meeting notes taken on this date by staff and the Jack House Committee Chair confirm this
recollection of Marilyn’s statement of resignation.
Staff remains committed to moving the Jack House Operational Analysis project forward through ongoing
analysis and various community engagement activities to seek the community’s input about the future of the
Jack House.
