Ron Combs has been on-site and seen the tree. The tree is fairly substantial in size, but has no historical connection to the site, and is not unusual in any way. We want to remove it as the trunk Is leaning, and currently leaning within an inch of the roof of the structure we are about to remodel as the site for the new Wine History Project educational exhibit. It also overshadows part of the area where we will soon be installing an educational garden of heirloom French vegetables and herbs, the sorts of things the Dallidets would have had in the 1860's and 1870's. We have great plans to revitalize the gardens for education about local wine industry history, heirloom fruits and vegetables that would have been grown by the Dallidets, and generally make the site a more active component of SLO history and culture. We will be making a short presentation to you at your February meeting to introduce you to our plans. The site currently contains 2 city designated Heritage Redwoods planted by the Dallidets, and several other trees that could qualify for that designation. There are many trees on the site. Unfortunately the gardens are not open at this time of the year, but I would be happy to arrange a time for the committee members to visit the site. I hope to arrange that at your February meeting. The Dallidet Committee has great plans to revitalize the site. We would like the opportunity to show it to you and discuss our plans, and show you our trees. We know that the Dallidets grew orchards of pomegranates and peaches and we would love to add an orchard of heirloom varieties of those trees and others after our initial projects with wine history and vegetables get going. We want to create an educational site for the public and tourists that will draw them back again and again, and show off San Luis Obispo's history. But first we want vour approval to remove one tree! 0 lit i q41 p, 1 Sx 11.q PI go 14 11 % It'ml 6r alas 34.
