Subject:San Luis Square
Good morning,
I’m writing in strong opposition to the San Luis Square project.
It is wrong, in so many ways, but I’ll focus on two factors.
1) IT IS TOO TALL!! It should be no taller than the complex across Marsh from it.
It will block the views and sense of openness that citizens of SLO love, and the very reason SLO is so special.
The developer has plans for big windows facing Cerro San Luis, but that will only benefit their tenants. How about the
rest of us?! Why should a greedy developer be allowed to steal something so precious?
Before you vote on this, I implore you to go sit on the patio at Scout coffee house on Foothill.
Where one used to sit and enjoy the views of cattle grazing on the hillside, all you see now is an ugly monstrosity, known
as 22 Chorro, “Luxury Student Apartments”. That development should never have been approved.
2) Safety. Just last week the old Unity church on Southwood burnt to the ground. 40 firefighters, and 10 rigs, some from
North County, CMC and CDF included. It was ONE story and uninhabited. What if another large fire occurred at the same
time, or multiple medical emergency calls came in? We don’t have enough resources for all this growth. I feel we may
have reached our max growth, with what we have. Imagine a fire in one of these many high rises going up downtown.
How easily it could spread.
Please, use some common sense, don’t bow down to the developers who want to destroy our way of life, and sell their
idea of what they think SLO should be. We, who have lived here for years, don’t want to lose this special place we call
home.
Thank you,
Debbie Anthony
