the Zoning Regulations Update
Post Date: 03/28/2018 4:00 PM
The City of San Luis Obispo is preparing an update to the City’s Zoning Regulations (Municipal Code
Chapter 17). Zoning Regulations are intended to guide the development of the city in an orderly manner
based on the adopted general plan, to protect and enhance the quality of the natural and built

environment, and to promote public health, safety, and general welfare, by regulating the use of land
and buildings, and location and basic form of structures.
The City Council will hold a study session meeting to;
1. Receive a presentation on key milestones of the Zoning Regulations update
2. Provide policy direction on the following key issues:
o Evaluate how density is calculated and consider changes to implement LUCE objectives
o Encourage flexible density in Downtown
o Consider regulation of rooftop uses
o Review adequacy of the City’s alcohol outlet regulations
o Consider tiny homes on wheels
o Remove barriers to the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs)
o Consolidate and streamline the development review process
o Update the parking regulations to reflect modern practices and mode shift objectives
