Both of us are now retired and we enjoy both our city and our life in this residential neighborhood. Our house is located on Pasatiempo Drive and was built by the Lambert family in 1987. We have recently been made aware that an investor in our neighborhood has applied for building permits to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on each of his two R1 properties, in neither of which he resides. Both these properties are currently rented to students and not to families. Clearly, his intention is to build the additional ADUs in order to maximize his rental income by renting bedrooms to even more students. Recently two new families have moved into our neighborhood, and both Janice and I welcome them and the opportunity to develop long-term relationships and strengthen the existing sense of community in our residential neighborhood. We have nothing against college students, and in fact, we enjoy the cultural opportunities afforded by our proximity to Cal Poly and Cuesta College. Nevertheless, we feel strongly that our neighborhood should remain family-oriented, where neighbors can look after one another and children can grow up and enjoy the bonds of a neighborhood in which people get to know each other and develop friendships and long-lasting relationships. Therefore, we strongly oppose approval of the application of an investor, who is not himself a resident, to turn single-family residences in our neighborhood into student housing units for the sake of his own profit. For us, community camaraderie and neighborly bonds are more important than the profitability of an individual. We ask both Heidi Harmon and the entire city council to reject this application. Thank you for addressing our concerns, Keith Elliott Janice Elliott
