Subject:Item #1. Anholm Bikeway
Dear Mayor and Council members,
I urge you to listen to the ideas and opinions of the people this portion of the bike boulevard will impact the most.
Anholm district is an old small community and any idea of bike tracks crossing many driveways are unsafe. They're not
safe for riders, pedestrians or residents. I've talked to many people in the SLO bike club and they as a collective agree.
Scratch any future idea of the cycle tracks in our Anholm neighborhood and you might get a different reception to a bike
path. Let us work with you and your staff to form a safer bike area. To ignore us, is to insult us and yet we are your
constituents.
Give us more than 3 minutes. Set up a committee that includes some Anholm residents with your specialists, because in
the long run of it all we residents are the practical use specialists of this area. Before you come up with any phases we
need more information that you must have by now. How is the road sharing going? Isn't it logical to take the less
physically capable riders off the main route into town? What is it really adding to a family trip, but a few minutes and
the safety of knowing the riders are not in harms way. The deep end of the pool is not safe for inexperienced swimmers,
much like the traffic along Chorro for inexperienced bicyclists.
I want to Thank Andy Pease and Aaron Gomez for addressing my concerns after the agreement was amended on the
20th of February, 2018.
I won't be able to make the meeting on the 10th of April, because we just found out about it today at 4pm on Monday
April the 9th, 2018, and we have plans we can't change.
I do really believe you should listen to us the residents of San Luis Obispo. To do otherwise is disrespectful. We are not
children and we don't need to be told what is good for us. Are you going to fill in all the deep ends of pools for fear of
people drowning? Of course not, but having a bike track waiting in the wings to force on us when all other attempts fall
through is not right, thoughtful or respectful to us the Anholm District. There are more than a few loud voices against
this, you should listen to them.
I understand your enthusiasm for something you feel is right. But you must try to meet us who are in the middle of a
multimillion dollar bike path in the middle with a reasonable agreement. Be as enthusiastic as telling us about meetings
as you were when you didn't know our collective feelings on the matter. Please be as transparent as you can. Be more
transparent than the law allows and you will have people less frustrated and more willing to cooperate.
Respectively,
Nancy T. Pickering from the Anholm neighborhood
