The Action Update posted after that event provided an accurate recital of the Council’s action. Why wasn’t the resolution prepared and signed by the Mayor as is the normal process ? Viewing the video of the February 20th meeting the explanation becomes obvious. Bike groups were dissatisfied with the action taken by the Council, prompting a well orchestrated takeover and misdirection of the agenda item to adopt the resolution which was voted on and passed on the 6th was undertaken by the Mayor and Council member Rivoire. The bike groups were well aware that the Broad Street Bike Boulevard would be reconsidered and prepared for the event, while the concerned residents had read the Resolution and satisfied themselves that it accurately reflected the February 6th event. The do-over to appease donors is shameful and accentuate by the City Attorneys participation in the deception. Simply stating there is no Brown Act violation does not make it so. The local bike groups are a self identified lobbying organization, engaging in derogatory stereotyping of Anholm residents to claim that anyone opposed to the bike coalitions’s preferred route/mechanisms/timing opposes any bike related infrastructure whatsoever. A “you’re with me or against me” position prohibits the thoughtful evaluation and analysis of the components of the project to best serve all residents with available resources. On a positive note it was great to see the reduction in bicycle involved accidents by 28%. Lydia Mourenza, Anholm since 1975 1
