Subject: proposed tax increases
Dear Council Members-
COUNCIL MEETING:
fTEM NO.: — --
W- CRTC` PLERK
The proposal to increases property taxes only exasperates the cost of housing here in a very limited and expensive
market. This will have the most negative impact
the oldest members of our community- aging population with limited income and the younger students, Wage
stagnation is another real factor across the state and the country. Raising taxes on land makes any new apartments less
affordable but the incomes stay the same. In the end local retailers will suffer from lack of extra cash to spend locally.
A modest Sales tax seems prudent given the need. Again, we just saw the gasoline tax go up and locally the Downtown
Parking garage fees just increased which is basically a tax.
Looking at the Wish Lists of updating and renovating the Mission Plaza ... that is a 'want' but not a NEED and in the same
breath the NEW ART MUSEUM will be a draw on the park location. Please support more housing! Perhaps some
more NiphtSky friendly street lighting down town as well so that we can see our way safely to our cars after enjoying the
many downtown events.
Hey Tax the bicyclists via parking permit for racks and roadways..- to help pay for the proposed changes. You charge
quite a bit to park in a car ... so much I hesitate to go as often.
This is a lovely city and area ... support more housing and student housing near or on campus, entice more tech
businesses to the area.
Sincerely,
