Subject: 5/2/18 Parks and Rec Commission Hearing item #3‐ Dodgeball Pilot Program
Dear Commissioners,
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration to approve the Dodgeball Pilot Program.
I have attended SLO Dodgeball’s session for over one year.
This event has been an opportunity in the community I thoroughly enjoy for a number of reasons. Not only is it a safe,
healthy, active sport that involves good laughs & great times. But, it has probably been one of the best avenues I’ve
found in what I’m sure all of you are probably well aware is a very limited, isolated, homogeneous county to meet some
of the healthiest, kindest, most active & fun friends I’ve met since moving to the area. It’s an activity that is open to
anyone over 18 years of age & at any skill level, rules are in place & enforced to protect everyone’s safety, & it is
ensured that everyone have a good time & be kind to others. It’s such a valuable resource & outlet. The only huge
struggle we’ve had is securing week day evening times at Ludwig Center for the events.
Please approve the pilot program so that the established SLO Dodgeball group can continue while benefiting from the
City’s support. The City’s program will provide the dodgeball community with a consistent schedule and the increased
publicity will make this fun physical activity available to even more community members. We would be incredibly
grateful for your support of this group/program.
Thank you very much,
Rebecca Gillis, Psy.D.
