Advisory Bodies/Architectural Review Commission,
With respect and some frustrationā
I just do not see how this 4 story building at 790 Foothill is going to meet the needs of affordable housing in this area. 78
units will be available and 12 of those "units" will be for very low income renters. Are these studios similar to 22
Chorro? This apparently meets California's needs for higher density living and therefore it will exclude zoning
ordinances like height restrictions and setbacks, and it will allow more of the site to be built on.
Can't you give a recommendation for negotiating for the space? For example, "For all the space you are taking and
profiting off of, we want a park to balance out the landscape." This is the conundrum, our city officials want green
spaces, but want to pack an area with housing.
This developer has two places in a short space of each other that did not require city ordinances, because they complied
with the state's minimal low income housing legislative. Now they are going for a third project. Can't negotiations begin
before the State gets involved?
But, nothing is set in concrete so to speak, until they get approval from the city. And you have the power to control this
situation that will best fit in with the Spirit of San Luis Obispo. And this building is a monster, which is not an aesthetic
we think of when we think of San Luis. We encourage all of our city officials to think outside the box.
Respectfully,
Nancy T. Pickering of San Luis Obispo
