HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-07-2018 - Item 2 - AnthonyMembers of the Architectural Review Commission,
I write in strong opposition to the proposed project at 790 Foothill.
I find it so ironic, the day we received a pamphlet in the mail, from the city,
regarding raises in water and sewer services. And a week after the Planning
Commission (via Director Davidson) curbed discussion on this project until late
May, here it is on your agenda.
This project is simply too oppressive for that location, especially with the
proposed variances of height to 43 feet, vs. the standard 35 ft., and the building
footprint of 90% vs. the standard 75%.
This developer has already built a monstrosity at 22 Chorro, which we are all
paying the price for, with the increased traffic and loss of the views of our beloved
Cerro San Luis to name a few.
I feel this developer cannot be trusted. He knows all the lingo to get his project
okayed, “affordable workforce housing”, “low income housing”. But as soon as it
is approved, I’m sure well see the big banners, once again advertising “luxury
student apartments”.
Lets not be so gullible again.
Lets call it what it is…off campus dorms!
The increased traffic that will come with this project, will greatly impact the
neighborhood, and will be a HUGE safety issue.
That part of Foothill is already a nightmare to navigate, whether walking, biking
or driving.
I also have a huge concern over water, or lack of water.
We did have some rain this winter, but we should always be mindful of the
drought state we live under. Its going to get worse, not better. Most of us
conserve water quite aggressively, while watching the city allow the building of
large hotels and these massive dorms.
And, finally, losing the views of Bishop Peak, after already losing the views of
Cerro San Luis is just too much. Is Foothill to become a concrete canyon?
I ask you, please, to give this project some very serious thought.
Although I’d love it if you would completely deny the project, I hope at least, you
will greatly reduce the size and scope of it.
Do not allow the height and footprint variances requested, no matter what they
promise. Don’t give in to their glib presentation.
Please, stand up for the residents you are here to serve.
Thank you,
Debbie Anthony
