Good afternoon,
My husband and I are very concerned about the direction that San Luis Obispo seems to be going. WE are fast losing the
uniqueness of SLO with it’s small town charm. We particularly find the traffic at the intersection by 22 Chorro
unbelievable, and the building itself beyond ugly. And now you are considering adding another 78 units to that very
same corner?? You may think this architectural drawing proposed for 790 Foothill is pleasing…….and it may be, if it were
anywhere else. This is utterly the wrong place for it to be built. The developer markets it to you as affordable housing,
and once it is approved it is marketed as “luxury student apartments”. There is nothing affordable about it save for
what: 4 units? I can’t imagine a family of 4 with young children wanting to live there. Where is the grass? The yard?
Cement, cement, cement. Traffic, traffic, traffic. It is simply off campus dorms on city land, because Cal Poly is either
unable or unwilling to provide adequate housing (or classes, for that matter) to the increase in students it is accepting.
Those in authority seem to be kowtowing to out of town developers who only want to profit off of our once beautiful
town, and not listening to the permanent residents at all.
For once listen to the residents. Follow the quality of life that we all love about San Luis, and not always follow the
money.
Your children and grandchildren will thank you.
Thanks for your time,
Judi and Gary Tewell
ps. And then I haven’t even brought up the fact that we have no water to spare. That alone should bring about a no
growth policy until we have an adequate supply.
