Subject:ARC 5/7/18 Item 2 790 Foothill
Dear Architectural Review Committee members,
My concerns related to the proposed 790 Foothill project are focused on the following issues:
1. Pedestrian , vehicle and bicycle safety at the intersection of Chorro and Foothill
2. Lack of supporting corridors for increased traffic. Broad and Chorro are not designed for the transportation issues
that will result from this proposed increased density.
3. Misrepresentation by the developer of the scope of the project as evidenced by the metamorphosis of the 22
Chorro structure.
4. The proposed height of 43 feet is above standard.
5. The proposed building standard of 90% lot fill is above standard.
This proposal is prematurely being considered prior to the 22 Chorro project's fully functioning use. The impacts of 22
Chorro remain to be seen on this very dangerous and poorly designed intersection. In addition the residential street traffic
issues of speeding and racing down Meinecke, Benton Way, Lincoln, Chorro and Broad that currently exist are destined
to increase.
I request the following:
1. Postpone approval of this project so that you are able to address the above corollary concerns of historically
significant residential neighborhoods.
2. Consider significant traffic diversion/calming efforts on streets entering the residential neighborhoods from the
commercially zoned corridors of Foothill and Santa Rosa. Patricia, Broad,Chorro, Meinecke, Murray, etc.
3. Show respect for the residents, the Village apartment residents, the homeowners and the renters. Last week I
was told that "I was not going to be around forever" and that "they are just waiting for that to happen." I believe
that is a true reflection of the motivating efforts for projects like this. Cal Poly will be here forever, but not the
seniors in their homes so ....."Let's move with the movers." Eventually "they will go away."
4. Absolutely reject the 43 feet height proposal and the 90% lot footprint.
I remain skeptical and disillusioned with the decisions, processes and individuals involved in these projects. I don't believe
that my voice matters at all. The building of the 22 Chorro housing project is the evidence that many who spoke with
intelligence, passion, civility and good will and a willingness to compromised were ignored.
Please , think carefully about the corridors of Santa Rosa and Foothill .
The welcoming sign on Highland and Santa Rosa is a beautiful representation of our City. I am embarrassed when I see
the lack of design represented by the out of scale , boxy , out of place building at 22 Chorro.
Sincerely,
Daphne Boatright
