To those who can approve or disapprove 790 Foothill.
Dear Committee,
Apparently the hazards at the Chorro and Foothill intersection are very well kept secrets. Now with 22 Chorro extending
to the sidewalk there are more hazards for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles. To compound the situation there is the
possibility of 790 Foothill being built to the same standards as 22 Chorro.
I know it can be understood that adding 790 Foothill to the already difficult area is not the responsible thing to do, but
yet, here it is on your desk to review.
If truly these off campus dorms had tenants that didn't add cars to the mix I may think differently, but we KNOW there
will be additional cars coming and going from this complex and these tenants will park their cars close by in residential
neighborhoods.
Now without those two off campus dorms realized and operating all seems fine. But, it is not fine. Look how Broad
Street and Chorro spurt out cyclists everyday into traffic, onto side walks. Now with 22 Chorro up against the side walk
those nonāstopping cyclists heading towards Poly off of South Chorro are going to take out pedestrians walking towards
Starbucks, the grocery store, etc.. on the sidewalks of Foothill.
Cars, buses and cyclists on this very day making a lefthand turn off of Foothill onto Chorro have to anticipate cars coming
out of the Ferinni Square. Those vehicles can make a left or a right handed turn. Then we have the pedestrians who are
trying to avoid this already crowded intersection by cutting across the street before the intersection on Chorro. To
exacerbate the situation that already exists at this intersection this is the main artery for the Fire Station on Chorro.
With the anticipation of 6,800 square feet of retail space under 790 Foothill, this will draw in more need for parking.
Parking is not an obsolete concept. This giant building is going to cause more safety issues than it will solve our
affordable housing needs to an already heavily impacted area.
Yet, the ARC states that "the project will not be detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of persons living or
working at the site or in the vicinity." 790 Foothill is the very example of what not to do.
The argument against us who do not want this to be built is, "It will fill an unsightly space". My answer is look up a short
distance and see the views above the space, don't fill the space that will block the gorgeous views and cause foreseeable
accidents and safety issues. Please really considerate not approving this mammoth dorm style housing project.
Thank you for your time,
