Subject:ARC communication--Re: ARCH 1186-2017/2018
Dear Members of the Architectural Review Commission:
I am strongly opposed to approval of the current proposal (ARCH‐‐1186‐2017/2018) before the Architectural Review
Commission concerning 790 Foothill Boulevard. I believe the apartment project as currently proposed substantially
degrades neighborhood quality for the following reasons:
1. The project will increase automobile congestion in the already congested intersection and surrounding area of
Foothill Boulevard and Chorro Streets.
2. The project provides inadequate parking for the apartment complex, and will, therefore, encourage complex
residents to park in the surrounding neighborhood, which already lacks adequate parking.
3. The project will increase population density in an already densely populated area.
4. The project is aesthetically too massive for its building lot size and the surrounding neighborhood, especially in light
of similar problems presented by the structure at 22 Chorro Street.
Although there is a need for additional housing for students at Cal Poly, I believe such housing should be constructed on
the abundant property of the Cal Poly campus via public‐private development projects entered into between private
developers and the California State University/Cal Poly.
Sincerely,
Dan Bertozzi Jr
