Referring to the request for public comment on Next Door, here are my thoughts:
Option C would be best. I live at Judson Terrace at 3000 Augusta. We have just 36 spaces for 107
apartments. Most of us have to compete for parking with the huge staff of Bella Vista nursing and transitional
care facility across the street. It is a nightmare. We need many more parking spaces for both entities – not
fewer. Some of us find parking on Laurel Lane above the intersection of Augusta.
Laurel Lane is not a huge cycling corridor that goes downtown. It only goes a couple of blocks from Johnson to
Orcutt. Parking is already very tight on Laurel Lane because of the Sydney Creek nursing facility. Overflow
staff parking used to be possible at the Laurel Lane Shopping Center. Since the entire project has come to a
complete halt, that option is no longer available.
Please keep in mind that not everyone can transition to bicycles. I’m 77 and biking to the grocery store or
downtown SLO is not an option. Many of us avoid going downtown anymore because of the loss of public
parking lots.
Thank you for asking for public comment. I’ll be out of town on May 17 and unable to attend the public
meeting.
Sincerely, Mary Leizear (805-784-0782)
