Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for sending this information over.
My Vote is the top one with parking, bike, buff, drive lane, center, drive, buff, bike, parking.
We definitely need as much street parking as possible so I would NOT want to chose an option that removes that from
one side.
I think it makes more sense to have the bike lane next to the drive lane b/c bikes are an alternative form of
transportation to a vehicle and should be grouped together.
Having the bike lane next to the side walk puts parked cars out in the middle of the street and I think this could be
confusing and dangerous. Having the parked cars in between the bike lane and the sidewalk seems the safest for people
getting in and out of their cars and not having to step out into traffic, they are buffered on both sides.
Please let me know if there is another way (besides emailing you) that I need to submit my vote. Thank you again for
keeping me in the loop, it’s much appreciated!
Have a great day!

Subject: Public Meeting: ATC to Consider Laurel Lane Protected Bike Lanes
Hello,
On May 1st the City Council approved the reconfiguration of Laurel Lane to one lane in each direction with a
center left turn lane, parking lanes, and buffered bike lanes. This approval also included pedestrian crossing
enhancements at Southwood & Augusta. As part of that action, however, the Council directed staff to
evaluate and return with consideration of one-way cycle tracks putting the bicycle lane between the
parking lane and the curb.
Cycle tracks have the benefit of providing a dedicated and protected space for bicyclists as well as eliminating
risk and fear of collisions with over-taking automobiles.
In order to accommodate the cycle tracks to meet recommended clearances, however, on street parking would
need to be removed from one side of Laurel (the north side). Additional on street parking would need to be
removed on the south side near driveways to provide adequate sight lines.
The City would like input from the community on this new component of the project. The Active Transportation
Committee will be reviewing and discussing three options for Laurel Lane at their May 17th meeting, 6 PM at
City Hall.
Option A: Install cycle tracks and maintain on-street parking. (To accommodate this option, the cycle tracks
would be less than the recommended clearance widths.)
Option B: Install cycle tracks and remove on-street parking to meet recommended clearances for the cycle
tracks.
Option C: Install the buffered bike lanes as originally proposed for the project (no cycle tracks)
(See attached for cross sections)
You are encouraged to attend this meeting (or send written comments to advisorybodies@slocity.org).
Thank you,
