Subject:Comments for Laurel Ln Complete Streets Project
Hello Active Transportation Committee,
My family and I live on the corner of Southwood Dr and Laurel Ln. We walk across Laurel Ln daily to go to
Sinsheimer School, nearby parks, and our garden on Laurel Ln. We also enjoy riding our bikes around town
from our home and taking the bus.
I strongly support the road diet portion of the Laurel Lanes Complete Streets Project - especially the bulbouts
to shorten the crossing distance.
I do have some concerns about adding a cycle track. I like the safety benefit from them as a cyclist but am
wondering how they would affect the neighborhood’s needs. I spoke with some businesses on Laurel Ln and
they expressed a strong desire for more parking. The gardeners at the community garden on Laurel Ln need
parking adjacent to the garden to bring in soil or other gardening supplies. Also, I’m concerned about the
disabled bus users reaching the sidewalk if the bus has to stop away from the sidewalk.
Would the City concern an option that would provide a cycle track on the south side of the road (going up the
hill) and a “regular” bike line on the north side (going down the hill)? Seems like this configuration could provide
parking/access for the users on the south side of the street and safety for cyclists going up the hill at slower
speeds.
Thank you for listening to my concerns and improving our City!
