I opposed such a change for at least two reasons. First, requiring existing development to comply with parking requirements other than for what the spaces were originally designed for unnecessarily burdens property owners, building professionals, and small business owners. Second, and more importantly, I urge you to consider the environment. Planning departments that make pro- automobile zoning decisions in the age of global warming are acting unconscionably . An increase in additional parking in the form of impermeable asphalt will contribute to more cars, more pollution, and more run-off. Each of these contributions will affect the air, water, and quality of life of every citizen of the City of San Luis Obispo. This is the 21st century... I encourage and urge you to take the lead in making zoning changes which are forward- looking for everybody: reject the proposed increase for retail parking. Sincerely, Travis B. Colburn, Architect 1
