Subject:July 10 Council Agenda Item 10 - Housing Trust Fund
SUBJECT: July 10, 2018 Agenda Item #10. Housing Trust Fund Request for Funding
Dear Council Members,
HASLO strongly supports the Housing Trust Fund’s request for $80,000 from the City’s
Affordable Housing Fund. Our understanding is that this funding will actually assist HTF with
two fiscal years of operations.
The HTF has been an invaluable partner, leveraging funding and enabling projects to move
forward that otherwise may not be feasible. Two recent examples are Hope House and
Courtyard at the Meadows. Hope House is a facility that HASLO is purchasing in Los Osos that
will provide transitional housing for 9 formerly incarcerated SLO women, along with wrap
around support services by Restorative Partners. Many of these women were arrested on the
streets of SLO and would return there upon discharge if not for this special
program. Courtyard at the Meadows consists of 36 new one, two and three bedroom
affordable apartments in SLO for its lower income workforce as well as disabled
households. HASLO begins construction of Courtyard this November.
I could list many more examples of the Housing Trust Fund’s work. For now let me just state
that we heartily endorse the Housing Trust Fund, and particularly its strong leadership under
Jerry Rioux.
Also, please be advised that the HTF did not seek this support letter, nor are they aware of its
submittal. We were simply monitoring the Council agenda, and came across this item.
Sincerely,
Scott Smith
