Dear Mayor Harmon & Councilmembers,
I am new to SLO, I moved here 2 years ago. I am a professor at Cal Poly and my husband is a PA. We make a
good income, but are considering moving from SLO because we simply can't afford a home. I've heard much of
the debate about these types of projects fundamentally changing SLO by making it "bigger". I completely
disagree- in my limited time here the charm of SLO is that is it a family-orientated, active, college town.
Without these types of projects families simply aren't going to be ba able to live here and SLO will be have
homes for investors or rich retirees. We recently received a notice that the median single-family home on the
market reached 1,000,000 this year! In much of the debate, the focus seems to be on "affordable" houses that
are deed restricted to lower income folk, which I think is important. But I think what many general residents of
SLO (who bought there houses years ago) don't realize is that there's very little "affordable" even to families
making well above the median salary. I think you need to make a more compelling argument that this
development will attract families and actually serve to preseve the chaacter of SLO.
