Dear ARC,
I’d like to voice my concerns about the proposed development for 790 Foothill. I’m in agreement with what has been
stated by others that opposed the over‐development of this property.
I think the development is too big for the lot and too high. It doesn’t have enough set back from the sidewalk and
property lines and looms over the surrounding area.
A rooftop garden might provide a bit of green space and common area for those that live in the building, but it does
nothing to provide a break from the density of the structure.
The building is boxy and uninspiring. It seems to be design to provide the maximum potential of living space with little
regard to aesthetics.
The interior design seems to be layout in a way to double the number of occupants, a two bedroom apartment
becoming a four bedroom apartment.
The number of occupants will directly impact the safety and welfare of those in and coming to the neighborhood.
A rooftop garden will increase noise pollution. I don’t think the planters will do much to buffer sound.
It is very likely that each occupant will have a car.
The lack of parking in the development will increase traffic in the surrounding neighborhoods as occupants look for a
place to park their car.
Neighbors will lose off street parking spots and will be force to apply for restricted parking on their street. This will have
a chain effect. Unable to find parking on one street will then spill over to finding a spot on another street. The
development’s lack of parking places an unjust burden on the surrounding neighborhoods.
Several of the streets in adjacent neighborhoods are at or exceed their level of cars per day. More cars increases the
potential for more accidents.
There are many pedestrians and bicyclists in this area. There are two nearby elementary schools with students that walk
and bike to school each day, students and faculty biking to Cal Poly, dog walkers, and elderly walking for exercise.
Has there been a traffic study that would reflect how the proposed development with effect traffic, parking, and safety?
I would hope such a study would use the potential number of residents that could live in each apartment.
The proposed development of 790 Foothill will house many people, but it does little for the beauty, quality of life, and
safety for those that live, work, and shop in the surrounding neighborhoods.
