I think you are very limited in your scope but you don't have to be limited in your disgust. By the time City Manager and Community Development Department have completed "encouraging" the Planning Commission to go along with their plan to LIMIT citizen commissions (e.g. ARC. CHC and Tree Committee) and make sure to SIGNIFICANTLY LIMIT residents ability to weigh in, we could be finished as the City everybody once loved. I imagine there will be pockets of permanent residents but without citizen intervention, the overwhelming number will be student short-term residents. While some of which L. Riehl proposes could be protected by State regulations, you and every other sensible resident should be telling the State what they need to regulate--the enrollment and housing at Cal Poly. Our City government is somehow reluctant to act--and has been so over the years. Ordinary residents who care are looking to replace Mayor and Council members. A Caring Council can then appoint Commissioners who can freely listen to residents and freely express their opinions (without being booted out by Council similar to Revoire and Christianson). Eventually, with wide-ranging changes in Staff the City of SLO can be saved to some version of a place where people will want to find a home and operate a business. In the future, with limited student rentals, both rent and sale prices can be adjusted downward. And not until.... For Tonight's Meeting: Please dispel hopes of 'affordable' housing from those attending by telling them honestly what this building is to be. I believe you can do so through moral conscience or through moral obligation. YOU CAN EASILY EXPLAIN TO EVERYONE (AS YOUR OPENING STATEMENT) THAT THIS IS NOT THE TIME AND PLACE FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO PLEA FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING. You can tell them from the outset to sign up with HASLO as 12 qualifying people will be able to rent A STUDIO here IF THEY QUALIFY. PLEASE ALSO STATE THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR LOBBYING FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING (by Central Coast Homebuilders Association or there "arm" Dwell Forward 2 OR (as they did last time) the company's own construction company Robbins/Reed ). PUBLIC SHOULD BE TOLD THE TRUTH AND LOBBYING ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO TELL THE TRUTH. That is not too much to ask, is it? It is possible you could require elevators should the range in age this building is being permitted for actually includes families or the elderly, as it should. If this is multi-family, require play space for children and outdoor ground level grassy areas for families to gather. Thank you so much for using good judgement and also for honesty, that will be required of any called, when hopes of going to a Grand Jury materialize. Sincerely, Camille Small
