Subject:July 16,2018. ARC meeting, Item #2, 790 Foothill
Respectfully ARC Commissions: Advisory Bodies
790 Foothill and its sister building 22 Chorro will impact the already congested area on Foothill once these building are
occupied. Besides increasing an already daytime high density area it will block the view-shed of the existing hills and
mountains and further impact surrounding neighborhoods with overflow parking. The aesthetic impact as it bulges
towards the street is horrendous and threatening to the area. The need for affordable housing is a cloak this building is
covering itself in and should be ignored.
Once both 22 Chorro and 71 Palomar are occupied we will see a sizable increase for the need for parking and the
additional on road traffic congestion during peak hours all along Foothill and along all routes to downtown and to the
freeway entrance on Broad Street.
Both Chorro and Broad Street have been well above their carrying capacity for years. With the addition of the current
project known as 790 Foothill at its current size and lack of parking all of these already existing problems are only going
to become that much worse.
Because the developer was not required to have the necessary number of parking for 71 Palomar and 22 Chorro and
with the addition of 790 Foothill there will be a need for approximately 691 parking places needed in the surrounding
neighborhoods. And to further compound the problem a Bike Boulevard will certainly consume any additional parking
that will be left for the residents of these neighborhoods.
I also hope the term Affordable Housing is truly quality housing and not some broom closets with beds. This
development is nothing more than over expensive student housing as is 71 Palomar and 22 Chorro. Let's not continue
the charade that it is anything more.
I do urge that the size of 790 Foothill will decrease in size and in height and a true compliment of parking is provided.
Thank you for your consideration.
