Dear ARC,
I urge that you deny the applicant's request to allow the current building finishes as being in compliance with city design
guidelines and with your previous directives.
The photos of the colors of this building as you originally approved and as it now stands are like night and day - it is
essentially the exact opposite of what you approved!
The applicant met with your subcommittee to discuss application of cedar wood finish to the second floor and was
advised this was a step in the right direction but that it should continue to the third level as well. So what does he do?
He applies to the second level only, disregarding once again ARC directives, and he now submits the building as it is for
your consideration and approval?
This needless back and forth with the ARC has gone in for seemingly two years! The applicant seems to believe he can do
as he pleases with no regard for city design guidelines nor for the authority of your body.
I still find the building colors dark and unattractive and the building a dark and brooding monolith. I urge you to deny
this request and rather than continue the item, impose final non-negotiable conditions of compliance. These should
include application of the cedar finish to the third levels of the building along with any other conditions your body
deems helpful in reducing the mass of this building and the lightening of its tone.
Thank you.
