Subject:July 16,2018. ARC meeting, Item #2, 790 Foothill
Respectfully ARC Commissions: Advisory Bodies
From a practical perspective-
Will the Affordable Housing studios at 790 Foothill have access to the view shed from the rooftop deck? There is a value
in this view shed that is being taken away from the neighborhood and the developer is given concessions because they
are adding a small % of studios as affordable housing.
The value of this lost asset for the neighborhood is priceless, but it is being given away for the thinly veiled promise of
affordable housing. It should be reduced in height and size.
We should all demand a real solution for the affordable housing problem and do not champion something that will only
allow Cal Poly not to fulfill their promise of more on campus housing at the same time they want to expand their student
population. These projects and the 200 million dollar dorm for 1,500 students is only going to continue forcing students
to occupy single family residents that some may be able to afford to rent if the current rental rate wasn't based on these
luxurious student housing projects. Modification of the beast as it stands now, please.
Please honorable committee, see that the size of this 790 Foothill project should not be allowed for safety, aesthetic
reasons and the best reason of them all it is not what it is promising, Affordable Housing.
Sincerely,
Nancy T. Pickering of the Anholm District
