Subject:San Luis Ranch
Having closely followed and participated in public discussions through the many steps of the planning process of the San
Luis Ranch development , I urge the Council to approve this project. I believe that no project can satisfy all residents by
the very nature of such proposals….i.e. added congestion both during and after the completion, additional pressure on
existing resources within the city, etc. To most current homeowners, any major changes are unwelcome. The
commitment of hundreds of thousands of dollars into what they had hoped to be the fulfillment of a major dream in life,
home ownership, can become a nightmare for them with just one decision of a planning commission. So of course
nothing so monumental as this project should have been less thoroughly examined.
But the objectives of the City, which reflect the objectives of legislation passed by the State of California, only take into
consideration what they want the future of California to look like. Truly these entities are no longer concerned with past
zoning regulations which were created to insure the comfort, safety, and growth expectations of previous generations,
as well as current home owners (as in owner occupied property). For those owner, whose taxes are paying the salaries
of those who sit on this council, this is a bitter pill.
The San Luis Ranch project has been proposing, and adjusting their plans continuously to satisfy as many of the City’s
objectives as possible. They have engaged the immediate neighborhoods to find acceptable solutions to problems
presented to them, both practical and aesthetic. Some are insurmountable…there will be traffic. Growing pains are
unavoidable…..which is why they are called “pains”. The longer this project is postponed, the less affordable the homes
will be. And eventually, there will be homes, at whatever price. And eventually there will be an overpass. It will only
become more expensive.
The plan is good. Please let it begin.
