Subject:San Luis Ranch Development
My name is Nilsen Legernes and I am a 30 year old full time worker in the town of San Luis Obispo. I have lived in this
town since I was 12 years old in the year 2000. Went to SLO high school and attended Cuesta college before working the
last 8 years at Tennis Warehouse. I have worked as much as possible to pay for my rent since the age of 18 in this town.
Since 2006 I have endured many raises in my rent. I remember paying 450 dollars for a room with 4 roommates in a
trashy house with a landlord who did not care about our problems because we were just "college kids." 12 years later I am
still renting with my fiancé. I really wish that I could have invested in property years ago when it was somewhat affordable
in this town/county because now, it seems impossible for us.
The San Luis Ranch development is important to me because it gives someone like myself, who is so deeply rooted
with family and time put into this area, hope that I will one day be able to purchase a property in this area. There is not
enough housing for all the people living in this area (especially with the influx of students). And the housing that is
available is so competitive that people who are still working to establish themselves enough to buy a house in the area
cannot do so because we just simply "aren't there yet." I think this idea is long overdue and would help people like me
immensely. I have watched many types developments go up in the last 18 years in this town and it has only been a matter
of time until more housing was needed.
Thank you for reading,
Nilsen Legernes
