In the past few years, it has become increasingly difficult to park downtown, either in the current lots or on the streets. The Palm Nipomo Parking Structure would alleviate this problem, especially needed because of the number of structures that were built on what used to be parking lots. I understand that they have parking underground, but this will only accommodate those staying in the hotels/apartments. I understand that there are some people who are against the Project. One concern is danger for pedestrians crossing the exit. As far as I know, there have been no injuries resulting from cars exiting the structure in Palm and Osos Streets. I also find it hard to believe that the structure and theatre would cause more traffic on Osos Street. Furthermore, as I understand it, the city owns the two structures that would need to be removed and neither is of historical significance. I understand that you are meeting tomorrow in closed session to consider the EIR for this project, which also includes the plans for a much deserved permanent home for SLO Rep. I urge you to approve the EIR for this project. The location would greatly benefit all those wanting to shop or dine or attend meetings and shows downtown and, therefore, the downtown businesses. In addition, the parking structure would provide much needed parking space for the Children’s Museum, Art Center, and expanded Mission Plaza. Sincerely, Catherine Luckett 1720 De Anza Ct.
