Dear Mayor Harmon & Council-members:
My name is Alicia Laskowski I have been following this post since you started this process. I am very interested and
would appreciate the opportunity to be a home owner in San Luis Obispo. I am a single mother with four children with a
high school education. My testimony of trials & tribulations I have endured in my life it would be a blessings if you
would allow this development of the San Luis Ranch to bring affordable housing to the Community. A survivor of
domestic violence my ex husband went to prison our house was about to go into foreclosure in 2016 the market to a
dramatic drop our house appraised for 800,000 and we sold it for close to 600,000 but with all the attorney & fees we
lost everything trying to provide for our four children. I had to separate four children with my family as I became a
Correctional Officer for the California Men’s Colony in San Luis California. I have not been able to afford a home in San
Luis Obispo Ca. I commute forty-five to an hour in a half depending on traffic commuting on a van pool but it’s very
unpredictable when your mandated. Working in an institution we are mandated working 16 hours a day sometimes it
can be two days in consecutively sleep deprived maybe four hours sleep which is not safe for a human to function in a
environment where there is violence and we are to protect public safety.
My children are my life and do to unforeseen circumstances in our institutions I am not able to come home to them but
if I had a home close I know they would be close to me. I would appreciate the opportunity to have a home I could
afford investors have came into our area and made it impossible for the housing market for us to buy a home. I do not
understand how families are affording housing in this area they are moving out of the state all of the officers I speak to
when they retire are they selling their homes because they can not afford to live here making well over $140,000. My
income at a seven year Officer is $108,000 and can not afford a home the down payment is difficult for me to come up
with if there is a way to assist me with a plan I would appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the San Luis
Community. We need to invest in our families who we are raising in our county not just the retirement or the College
community. We have investors coming in and buying property renting homes for outrageous amounts where do we set
the CAP. It would be a blessing to my family. A prayer answered Lord glory be to God.
Sincerely,
Alicia Laskowski
