In fact, I would like to see this or our next City Council revisit the decision (narrowly approved on a 3-2 vote) made in 2007 to increase the maximum height from 50 feet to its current level of 75 feet. Fifty feet is adequate. I believe the focus on density, used as an excuse to increase building heights, will leave a legacy of unintended consequences. For example, the two new downtown hotels currently being built tower over their neighbors creating a dissonant aesthetic, blocking views, and will use too much of our limited water resources. I also strongly advocate not approving the newest hotel under consideration at 1027 Nipomo street, proposed for construction in the current parking area at The Creamery. We do not need more hotel rooms downtown at this time. We do not have unlimited water resources and I believe we should look to the future and preserve what we have responsibly. My other concern is personal and aesthetic. I live on Dana Street behind the Creamery, and if approved my views will be boxed in by the proposed Creamery development, the Monterey Place development near the corner of Monterey and Nipomo, and the city’s proposed 5 level parking structure at Palm and Nipomo streets. Enough! Please do not allow more tall buildings downtown. Patricia Wittenstein 1
