Subject:Zoning regulations update
Dear Mayor Harmon, Council members and Planning Commissioners:
My husband and I have lived in the city of San Luis Obispo since 1989. We have seen many changes and
generally agree with most of them. However, the recent approvals and construction of the massive, oversized
buildings in the downtown and upper Monterey Street area is overwhelming. Little consideration is given to
setbacks from the street and the heights make it feel like we will soon be walking between concrete
corridors. The views of our beautiful mountains will soon be obstructed (unless you happen to stay at the new
hotel downtown).
The governing bodies should maintain the 50-foot height limit in the Zoning Regulation Update and greatly
strengthen criteria for increased densities in the downtown and upper Monterey area. The current criteria are
vague and easily manipulated by developers.
Thank you for your consideration,
Laura Frank
