Unfortunately, we won’t be able to attend. We have looked at the plans for the Vesper Hotel with 47 rooms and now at the resubmission for the Hotel at the Creamery with 67 rooms. We support your determination from last fall that the Vesper Hotel project to too massive for the proposed site. We hope you will come to the same determination about the revised project. It, too, is too bulky and massive for this site. And if anything it’s uglier than the original design. At 50 ft it will tower over the surrounding buildings as well as over the creek. We imagine it would have a very negative impact on the light and air that is vital for the creek and the plants and animals in it. We know there will be a 5 story parking garage at Palm & Nipomo as well as 29 residential units on Monterey next to the Children’s Museum. At Marsh & Nipomo we’ll have a 4 story hotel with 36 rooms and 63 residential units. We’re not real happy with these projects, but we recognize the need for more housing in SLO and support what the city is trying to do in that regard. But a hotel is not housing for our community. We live on Dana Street and love it. But our neighborhood needs some breathing space. How about something that expands the Children’s Museum for that space, maybe a garden/park/playground. The hotel at 1027 Nipomo is just too much! Thank you for listening to our concerns.
