I stand corrected. I was quoting you from a Tribune article where you stated that we would have enough water for the 2035 General Plan build out population of 57,000. I think it would be more helpful if 1 your public remarks always added the clarification that our water demand will be sufficient to accommodate a daytime population of 84,350 in 2035 (84,350 being my estimate). Three years ago (see below) I calculated that our demand in 2035 would be 7,009 acre feet and assumed that there would continue to be a 2015 supply of 10,005 acre feet. What concerns many of us is whether we will be able to rely on this supply maintaining itself at today's 10,130 acre feet over the coming 18 years. - Allan 2035 General Plan Build Out Water Demand Projections 9,736 more residents 437,049 more gallons/day 838 more hotel rooms 182,684 more gallons/day 5,978 more office workers 759,206 more gallons/day 2,446 more retail/commercial workers 371,792 more gallons/day 109 more manufacturing employees 3,815 more gallons/day 88 more hospital workers 10,912 more gallons/day 150 bed homeless shelter 4,965 more gallons/day 67 seat schools 670 more gallons/day 341 nursing home beds 31,372 more gallons/day Total 1,802,465 more gallons/day Equivalent additional population: 40,153 more residents (excluding additional restaurant related water impacts) 1,802,465 divided by 325,851 x 365 = 2,019 more acre feet/year In 2015 San Luis Obispo total water 4,990 acre feet/year use (for a population of 45,802) Total water resource demand with 7,009 acre feet/year build out Total water resource availability in 10,005 acre feet/year 2015 On Thu, Aug 16, 2018 at 11:57 AM Mattingly, Carrie <cmattingly@slocity.org> wrote: bcc:cc Dear Mr. Cooper, I received a copy of your recent correspondence to the City Council (attached) and, based on what you have written, it appears you have a misperception about the statement “having sufficient water resources to serve the City through General Plan buildout” that would serve our community well to be corrected. Below is some 2 information that hopefully clarifies for you how we take the city’s total daytime population into consideration in our water resource planning and water use calculations. The total daytime population water use is fully taken into consideration. If you would like to see a chart showing the city’s population, water supply and demand (which includes total daytime population use), over time, please click on this link: http://www.slocity.org/home/showdocument?id=19883 or go to slowater.org; click on documents and files and choose water use and population growth. Please remember this includes total water demand. There are other documents on the page that may be helpful to you in your research related to water infrastructure and water resources. Let me know if there are questions I can answer for you. Either Aaron or I are happy to help clarify details. I’ve copied the Mayor and City Council members on this email. Have a good day!
