Subject:Building height in downtown
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
A couple of years ago I participated in a community forum where we were asked how we wanted our town to look. I
liked that we were assigned a table which meant we would meet folks we probably didn't know instead of sitting with
friends. At "my" table were several young men I guess between the ages of 25 and 30. When our session began, they
took charge with the assertive energy young men often possess. To my surprise, they marked off Nipomo Street to Santa
Rosa for no change in height. They each stated our town is special and they are making this their home because of that
even given the difficulty of making a good living and finding suitable housing. I have since heard this sentiment often.
Please do not raise heights anymore in our downtown. It is laughable when we hear the term affordable housing with so
few units included at the expense of losing our precious ambiance. You are tasked with protecting what is special to San
Luis Obispo.
Best regards,
Terri Trew
