1. MARKETING AGENCY YEAR-END REPORT 20 mins
Representatives from AMF and Matchfire will present the 2017-18 year-end report for the marketing
activities for the SLO TBID.

Representatives from the SLO Chamber will present the 201 7-18 year-end report for the Guest Service and
Public Relations contracts with the SLO TBID.

CALL TO ORDER
A Meeting of the Tourism Business Improvement District Board was called to order on
Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm
Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Skidmore.

Education, reviewed the business activity and public relations activities from the past
month.
The Board discussed room occupancy rate for Cal Poly graduation weekend and
potential impact of the date change for the Pismo Beach Car show.

BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Research Results
AMF representative Joe Denneny presented the consumer research study results
presenting key findings for where people have visited recently, reasons for San Luis
Obispo vacations, and what sources of travel information they use to inform their travel
decisions. Responded to Board questions.
The Board discussed study results concerning the reasons stated for not visiting San
Luis Obispo, along with the top attracted socio-economic market.

2. 2018-19 Contractor Work Scope & Agreement Terms
Board Member Kimberly Walker departed at this time.

TBID LIAISON REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS
1. Hotelier Update
No updates at this time.
2. Management Committee Update
Tourism Manger Cano reviewed the Minutes of the June 7, 2018 meeting, highlighting
the strategic partnership with the Camber of Commerce on ShareSLO.
3. Marketing Committee Update
Tourism Manger Cano reported on the Minutes of the June 6, 2018 Event Promotion
Sponsorship meeting, noting that applications are due by July 6, 2018.
4. Promotional Coordinating Committee (PCC) Update
Board Member Wilkins and Tourism Manger Cano reported on PCC event funding, the
creation of the Midstate Fair “window” display, SLO Happenings funding, and Grants
in Aid funding allocations.
5. Visit SLO Cal Update
Board Member Patel noted that they changed their marketing agency to Miles Media
Partnership, that two new board members were seated, and that Pismo Beach approved
of a short-term rental ordinance.
Tourism Manager Cano provided an update on the Advisory Committee, Tourism
Exchange, the Marketing Committee, and shared the “Year in Review” brochure and
the 2018-19 Marketing Plan.
6. Tourism Program Update
Tourism Manager Cano provided a Tourism Program Update.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:53 a.m. The next Regular meeting of the Tourism Business
Improvement District Board is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., in the

1. Worked with Santa Barbara Seasons Magazine on editorial content and event
coverage for upcoming issues.
2. Continued planning press trips for Seattle based bloggers All things Kate and Style-
ish.
3. Pitched the Sunset Drive-In for inclusion in an Architectural Digest article about best
drive-in theaters in the nation.
4. Sent press release to outlets in the region about Summer events in San Luis Obispo.
5. Worked with Visit SLO Cal to coordinate SLO portion of press trip for the Scottish Sun.
6. Sent information and photos to CCTC for architectural attractions in San Luis Obispo for
inclusion in their PR pitches.
7. Pitched the following to Visit California for inclusion in their What’s New call for media
relations content:

9. Worked with freelancer Nick Kontis, who visited SLO on a FAM trip a few years ago, on
an upcoming article about visiting the city.
10. Began working with a group from Google who will be visiting SLO in August, developing
itinerary suggestions to entice the 500 attendees to extend their trip.
11. Coordinated radio appearance for Molly Cano on KVEC to discuss ways for people to
experience SLO on a staycation or when they have friends and family visiting the area.
12. Drafted talking points for Molly Cano’s appearance on KSBY to discuss graduation
weekend.
13. Continued to work with the city, AMF and Matchfire on overall tourism marketing
campaign.

CALL TO ORDER
A Regular Meeting of the Promotional Coordinating Committee was called to order on
Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 5:34 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm
Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Dixon.
ROLL CALL
Present: Committee Members Melissa Godsey (5:36), Dana Matteson, John Thomas, Matthew
Wilkins, Vice Chair Daniel Levi and Chair Zoya Dixon
Absent: Committee Members Diana Cozzi

Education, reviewed the business activity and public relations activities from the past
month.

Tourism Manager Cano reviewed the 2018-19 contractor and partner work scopes,

MATTESON, CARRIED 6-0, to approve the scope of work proposals for the Chamber of
Commerce marketing support services to the GIA program, and the Matchfire SLO Happenings
Phase-Out.

2. 2017-18 Final Budget Review
The committee reviewed the year end program budget for 2017-18 and discussed final
allocations.

MATTESON, CARRIED 6-0, to earmark $ 2,000 of the available fund balance for a future
strategic plan update
3. PCC Strategic Plan New Initiative Discussion
Tourism Manager Cano reviewed the Framework for Developing the New
Project/Initiative criteria as listed in the PCC strategic plan.
The committee discussed research needs, potential issues and stakeholders, and focus
topics for the development of the new program. By consensus the Committee formed
three ad-hock groups to focus and report back on the discussed needs.
The Committee directed staff to compile a listing of questions discussed to be used in
their research.
Public Comments:
Molly Kern, Chamber of Commerce, suggested using the actual points from the
committee’s Strategic Plan framework for developing the project focus.

4. July PCC Meeting Schedule
The committee discussed conflicts with the regular July meeting date and possible
alternative options.
By consensus the committee decided to reschedule the July meeting to July 11, 2018 at
2:00 p.m. Following the meeting.

Committee member and TBID Board member Wilkins reviewed the TBID marketing

Tourism Manager Cano provided a Tourism Program Update.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m. The next meeting of the Promotional Coordinating
Committee will be a Special meeting and is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 2:00
p.m., in the Utilities Department Conference Room, 879 Morro Street, San Luis Obispo,
California.
