Subject:Zoning regulations update
Mayor Harmon and city council members.
Tuesday night is what should be the final act of the zoning regulations update, which you should all have the pleasure of
endorsing. This is not some half-baked thrown together document, this has been over four years in the making and the
process involved countless hours of citizen and city staff member input. The current zoning regulations manual
is obsolete and an update is long past due. This manual is the guide to many things, it is essential that it be up-to-date
and current. I will not go into the details, since I am sure you have heard it all more than once, the important thing is
the document needs to be updated.
I hear all of this talk about save our downtown, if we truly want to save our downtown that will require more people
living and working downtown. Or, if you prefer we can follow the lead of Santa Barbara and wait and watch the demise
of retail, which has now devastated a once sought after and thriving Santa Barbara’s, State Street. Please do not allow
the narrow minded thinking of a few that say they want to save downtown when they are actually guilty of the
opposite. It is so important we are given the tools contained within the updated zoning regulations that will in the end
actually save our downtown.
By the way I was greeted by hundreds of red flyers early Sunday morning on Monterey street, one actually said the
zoning updates will be “A major hand-Out to Developers” if that is true can someone let me know where the line starts, I
would like to be first in line. A hand-out is so far from the truth is almost humorous.
I look forward to our updated zoning regulations final approval. Thank you for your dedication to our city.
