With Deepest Respect to Our Council Members and Mayor,
First, thank you for doing this hard work of managing our city today, as well as planning for the vibrant and dynamic
future of SLO.
While I am in favor of redeveloping the out-dated buildings on the 15.8 acre of the C-R zone of the downtown core that
is on your agenda tonight I think we need to be very careful not to allow the type of development that would be so
dense and so parking-less that we become a "valet parking only" town.
Please note that the new Bank of America building at Santa Rosa and Higuera was developed under current standards. It
is charming and has adequate parking for modern banking. It is an asset to our community. Take a moment to picture
that building 75 feet high with less parking. I don’t think that makes any sense.
The parking along Marsh Street north of Santa Rosa is FULL Monday through Friday during typical working hours
because few of the office buildings along Marsh have adequate parking for the needs of the offices. Please don’t make it
worse. Please don’t allow the development community to push off too much parking infrastructure to the tax payers. It
is not fair.
We have lost so much downtown parking that many businesses are suffering. Older community members can’t walk
some of the long distances required to access shops, salons and restaurants in large sections of our downtown. We need
more public parking, and future development needs to provide their fair share of customer and residential parking.
Sincerely,
Kim Scott
